Alternate name, Gregory Jackson MacDougal Attended University of North in Denton, Texas. Dropped out after 3 years, moved to Hawaii 1978-79. Fostered nautical interest and love of water. Returned to UNT and graduated with BFA Cum Laude 1980. Won 'Best of Show' in North Texas Art League Spring Show and 'Best Sculpture', 1980. Worked way through college drawing caricatures at Six Flags Over Texas 1976-80, summers. Some post graduate work in painting. While at UNT Mack was a prize student in drawing and painting even having 5 gesture drawings included in the college text book "Drawing, a Contemporary Approach" by UNT Art Professors, Teel Sale and Claudia Betti. Mack also taught drawing briefly at UNT before entering the 'Real World' of Advertising. After graduating, accepted a position as art director for international ad agency Tracey Locke working on American Airlines account. Took a senior art director position at a smaller shop in Arlington Texas that focused on print work for such clients as General Dynamics and Johnson & Johnson. After 6 years focused on print, Mack took a position at Pollaro Media Advertising and Production, responsible for creative , storyboarding and set design for national and regional automotive TV, including Honda Motor Cars, GMC Trucks, Cadillac and Cheverolet. Over 350 spots produced in 8 year span. Worked on 46 music videos for Atlantic & Sony Recording, country divisions for such artist as The Bellamy Brothers, and Neal McCoy. Thirty two of the videos were voted into the CMT top ten videos, six reaching the #1 spot, one reached #1 twice. This is notable because none of the videos featured a 'Top 40' hit. "I really enjoyed the music videos as they allowed me to work on a four minute project as apposed to 30 seconds. We treated them like mini-movies and had virtually no Nashville influence… and it showed. They all stood apart from typical CMT offerings. And the scale was fun, once I did a 16' x 80' back drop," Mack went on to say. Mack created and operated ‘GYST Art', a non-profit gallery that had fourteen member artists, and featured visiting artists monthly, such as James Michalopolus of New Orleans. GYST Art had monthly opening nights from 1990-93. Mack created GYST Art as venue to show his work but also to bring area artists together. Monthly openings drew as many as 700 guests and all had a charitable benefit attached. " After years of organizing a group of artists, I deciding Cat Hearding wasn't meant for me." Moved to Fayetteville in 1995 and formed TaylorMack Advertising. Accounts include Cobb Vantress, Rheem Manufacturing, Bordinos, Jose's, MarketPlace Grill, Rock'nRoll Fantassy Camp, Liquor World, Hog Haus Brewing Company, The Common Grounds, Arkansas Western Gas, Marathon Global, Sam's Club and Bikes Blues & BBQ (TMA built BBB into Arkansas' largest single event before resigning the account in 2007). Mack's work is in the collections of Dr.Jeffery Elmore of Dallas Texas, Eric Warner of Chicago and Jerry Paine of Boston. Recently Mack sold 30 works in 30 days over the internet as a pilot project. Mack draws caricatures at local charity events 3-4 times a year donating the proceeds. "My artwork focuses on watercolor mostly... it's immeadiate. My work is seldom labored over. I love figurative and abstract landscapes. I also like to incorporate narrative into some work., whether it be original thoughts, memorable quotes or song lyrics." While watercolor accounts for 80% of my artwork, I also dabble in acrylics, sculpture (both additive and cast bronze) and have done some metal and wood furniture. My office desk originated from a horse trough and I've even incorporated neon into some pieces," says Greg Mack. Contact Greg Mack ~ Greg@TaylorMack.com ~ 479.283.4779 |
